tuesday tuesday. mid november 2010

oh i have neglected this journal lately.  it’s busy in the studio, trying to get ready for the holiday season.  which has arrived, no less.  i’m having a blast constructing new work!  just finished a kinetic ring…which is simultaneously a joy and a torment to make.  a joy because it pushes my brain and my construction abilities.  which i love.  a torment because it’s a lot of responsibility and i want to do perfectly right by the patron.  but it’s nice when it all works out and i’m quite proud of this ring…

i received three stones yesterday that i CANNOT wait to make into rings.  they’re rockin awesome.  hopefully i’ll post rough pics of them next tuesday.  that’s the goal.  and that’s all one can do.  right?

lovely feast and family to you.

tuesday tuesday. late july 2010

if yesterday was any indication, monday is not the best day for creative writing.  at least in my world.  i sat here and literally alternated between fits of white knuckled anxiety (thinking of all that needed to get done) and a brain numbing static (thinking of absolutely nothing at all).  i did this until i annoyed myself to the point of action and then the day progressed from there.

a few things about yesterday.

we had an amazing barn concert saturday.  crazy lovely.  didn’t do much at all sunday — which i’m sure added to the build-up of monday.  one thing that i did monday was set up my workspace since it gets cleared out to make room for the shows.  i needed to move a wooden chest from up against my jeweler’s bench back to its spot as a makeshift coffee table near the couch.  i don’t know if it was a semi-clairvoyant moment or a self fulfilling prophecy because right before it happened i knew it was going to happen and i dragged that heavy wooden box corner right over and into the side of my left foot.

it totally dropped me.  the pain did.  i’m lying there on the floor…kind of cross-eyed.  and pissed.  thinking – goddamn, i’m tougher than this.  it’s just a little physical pain.  not like anyone’s causing me emotional anguish.  i can’t cry or anything.  i mean, i would have if i needed to but it wasn’t like that.  but it really really hurt.  so i’m waiting for it to subside some so i can pull myself together. miss cv comes in and is asking me something about pokemon – i think – and pretty much not concerned about her mom on the floor clutching her foot.  i told her my foot hurt and we both giggled a bit.  we discussed how charmander evolves into charizard and finally charmeleon.  wait.  i think i’ve got that out of order.  but regardless.  i am now spongebob bandaged and have a bit of a limp.  and so it goes.

the other thing that happened yesterday is gil worked to right some of the wrongs with our new (to us) vw van.  the heater fan is acting weird so he pulled off a few panels around the dashboard and found…money!  not a ton – but enough to make it really amusing.  and again, it kind of made me giggle.  thinking of how life is full of these little frustrations.  with the cash were various little receipts for gas and other small errands…all dated from around early and mid 2005.  someone must’ve gotten into the habit of stuffing things in the ashtray. and it backed up a bit and made our fan start acting weird.  and the rest was history.

ok.  at any rate.  today will be a productive studio day.  mark my words.

tuesday tuesday. late mid july 2010

this summer is jetting by.  can’t quite believe we’re almost to august.  oh well.  such is life.

tuesday is the day for a studio update.  i’ve got these three words bouncing around at my fingertips.  so far in metal and thread.  there are not meant, by me, to be read as a sentence…i can’t put them together in a way that works.  for me.  but i like each one individually.  these are on their way to becoming necklaces — maybe on 18 inch sterling chains.  i’m pretty sure.  or perhaps more brass knuckle rings.  if you’re interested and have a custom request regarding this, drop a line.  now is the time in the process for customization!

thread-wise, i’m working these into little wristlets and also fabric rings.  haven’t photo’d the rings yet, altho i must say they’re turning out awesome.  they’ll be unveiled at the picnic shindig in portland later this summer.  when we get back from wassaic.  eek!  where has all the time gone…

spring love

hey kids!  it’s spring!  i hear it will start in earnest this weekend.  birds, bees, blooming bits… love is in the air!  so.  are you getting married?  looking for a special wedding band or engagement ring to mark the super stellar occasion?  come to the lovinganvil studio and make them all by your super rockin kickax self!  (well, actually, i’ll seriously guide you a lot…especially when you pick up the acetylene torch)

every step of the way — you’ll design, fabricate, and finish your piece or pieces.  silver, gold, copper – with or without stones.  and then snacks and a champagne (or spanish bubbly, rather) toast upon completion.  drop a line or call 971.645.9710 for more info.

and if you’re too far for a hands on studio experience, i always always always LOVE working with people to design their custom jewels – via sketches, email, phone calls.  i have lots of experience in long distance designing!

xoxo y viva el amor!  y viva la primavera!

brad hoshaw and justin of midwest dilemma played at lovinganvil AndMOR friday evening. it was super wonderful and i’m absolutely in love with both musicians. they stayed over at the hogfarm that night so we enjoyed more stories and hanging out.

last weekend ( a week ago from yesterday) we hosted annie and the beekeepers, garth stevenson, and the scandinavian half-breeds in the green barn at the hogfarm. it was soooo lovely as well. when we have music events, we fold up the studio so i’m displaced for lovinganvil work…so…so. i”m a little behind. in some ways it’s good, tho. to take a break. i actually miss sitting at my bench right now, instead of having to drag myself to it. so you know.

hopefully we’ll till the garden this evening or tomorrow. and take a bike ride in a bit. and our friend russell will come over to light a bonfire (he’s our resident pyro) to roast hot dogs, corn and marshmallows. yum.

oxoxo
